You won’t exactly be roughing it at this 11-room safari camp and lodge. But luxurious accommodations with electrical power and running water require a lot of help from Mother Nature. Photovoltaic panels transform the African sun into electricity to power everything from lamps to refrigerators to water heaters. A massive water catchment system stores 350,000 gallons of rainwater. Game drives aren’t the only place you’ll see the circle of life. Recycled water feeds the garden where the lodge grows its vegetables, which are cooked over stoves powered by charcoal made from a byproduct from local coffee farms.
